Biography
Tünde Újszászi conducted her studies at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) in Budapest, where she finished with a MA Textile Designer degree (2010). During this period she also had a chance to spend a semester at the Aalto University in Helsinki, which further enriched her scope of vision and helped in forming her visual language (2009). Later she continued her academic path as a student of Arts and Design Teacher department finishing with Masters degree (2013). Her works were featured in several group exhibitions in Helsinki, München, Lugano, Guimarães and one of the works became part of a public collection of Contexile Biennial, Guimarães, Portugal.
Topics that Tünde is exploring in her oeuvre are the illusion of permanence and the ever-changing nature of all our surrounding, which she examines through large-scale, woven installations and through series of paintings. Tünde’s primary inspiration as a visual artist is the material itself and the possibilities it beholds. It is the process of form creation and the way these pieces occupy the space that she is intrigued by. In her works Tünde examines the notion of time and the state of presence. The fiction of permanence, the conservation and stopping of time are expressed in the installations as a desire, which is rooted in her fear of the unknown and passing away.
Tünde Újszászi was born in 1987 in Szentes, Hungary. Currently works in Tahitótfalu.
